Ian’s First Valentine Exchange

This is Ian’s first year at pre-school.  I am having such a wonderful time.  Oh, he is enjoying it as well.

My favorite thing about him being in school is the stuff he gets to make.  I LOVE it!  But I also love the stuff I get to make for class room parties and stuff.

As you may know today is Valentine’s Day.

I don’t like Valentine’s Day.  Seriously, it is my least favorite holiday.

You don’t get time off from work/school.  You don’t get ‘real’ presents.  If you are a girl you may get flowers or candy, and every once in a while some jewelry.  But those are anniversary gifts.  Plus if you want to go out to dinner or away somewhere, good luck!  Everything is always booked or you have some ridiculous wait time.

But you know why I really don’t like Valentine’s day?

The hearts.

Yep, that’s right.  I can’t stand hearts.

Except these kind.

Seriously, these are great.

I was trying to figure out some kind of valentine for Ian to give to his school friends that did not include “Be Mine” or “Love” or some other gross mushy heart filled sentiment.

Come on people! they are 4-year olds!  They can’t even read the cards!

Ok, so I found I found these:

Smarties Valentine Valentines

They are cute and use Smarties, which we all love.

So I tried to make something like that with my Silhouette Cameo.  Tip Junkie does offer a free printable for these cards, but I wanted to make my own.

This is as far as I got:

MSS_SmartiePants Valentine
I didn’t really like how they looked. The pants never looked right (that’s why they are not pictured) they were too big, the smarties didn’t sit in the right. I just wasn’t happy with the outcome. Plus there are hearts on it! yuck!

So I decided to try something else.  I wanted to give little gift bags, that way I could more than just one piece of candy in it.  I could add little sticker or an eraser or something like that.

Since I got my Silhouette Cameo I joined a Facebook group and someone posted this super cute card with glasses and a pun-ny little saying “In my Eyes…something or other.”  Using that as inspiration I made these:

MSS_EyeThinkYou'reSpectacular Valentine

I made my own cut files using a bag template and png file (for the glasses) that I already had.  I cut the word “Eye” out of black glitter card-stock, and the bag is just regular 65lb card-stock.

Of course my Cameo did all the cutting & writing for me, I just had to glue and fill.  I know, I know, there is a heart on the glasses.  What’s a girl to do?  It is Valentine’s day after all.

I had thought about letting Ian write his own name.  But he just wasn’t game.

My first Silhouette project

I have not been posting that much lately.  I have been preoccupied.

I received a wonderful new crafting machine for Christmas.  A Silhouette Cameo cutting machine!!!!!

I can’t tell you how ecstatic I was. And still am.

I have been trying to win one FOREVER! I entered every giveaway I could find, but to no avail.

I have spent all my free time watching Youtube tutorials on how to use the machine.  Looking up materials to use.  Practicing with the software and fumbling around.

I knew there was two things I wanted to make first.  A thank you gift for some friends of ours who let us stay with them when we went to visit our old town.  And a card to go with it.

So here is my very first card made with my Silhouette!

Thanks A Latte card by Mama Sonshine

You can’t really see it because of the pen ink used, but the green tag says “Thanks A Latte”

My husband and I drink a lot of coffee.  That doesn’t change when we go on vay-kay and we consumed a lot while staying at our friends house.  Since he also drinks a lot of coffee, I thought this was fitting.

Those are little coffee beans spilled at the bottom of the card.  I would not have been able to cut them out, if not for my new machine!

Graphics for this card were from Traci Reed‘s Like you a latte kit.

Wait till you see the mug I made him, that post will be coming soon.

Menu Plan Monday Feb 10 (On a Wed?)

Here is the great thing about Meal Planning.  When you plan all your meals and go to the store to get all your food for the week, you don’t have to worry about what will happen if you get snowed in.

We were stuck in the house from Thursday to Sunday and it was ok.  We had enough food, we didn’t need to fight the ice and snow to get milk or chicken or anything.  I knew what I would make for dinner and I had everything necessary to make it.  It was a nice feeling

On Monday I made Tomato Parmesan Basil Tortellini soup and Baby Sid thought it was the most wonderful thing.

Menu Plan 2/10-2/16

Mon: Basil Parmesan Tomato Tortellini Soup (the recipe doesn’t call for Parmesan cheese, but really, why would you not.  I also didn’t use condensed soup so now need for milk/cream)

Tue: Pepper & Garlic Chicken in the Crock Pot with rice

Wed: Wine Glazed Steak and baked potatoes

Thr:  Creamy Grilled Chicken Piccata

Fri: Garlic Lemon Pork with Lemon Risotto

Sat: Kitchen is closed

Sun: Roast Time (or maybe fish…depends on how the weekend goes)

Running Log ~ End of Week 9

I run.

I am a runner.

I run.

becauseIrun

I realized something on my run last night.

I CAN DO THIS!

I will be running an 8K race in one month. ONE. Month.

But it’s ok, I can do it.

It took me five days to get back to the gym due to our Snowpocalypse of 2014.  I didn’t think I could run for 40 minutes.

I had been craving a run all weekend but when the time came I was afraid.  I was afraid I would be set back due to my lack of running.

So I tied my shoes, put in my earphones and hit start.  And I ran.

This was the last day of doing 10 min intervals with 1 min run between, repeating 4 times.  At the end of the first 10 minutes I did not walk.  I knew that I could run 30 minutes with out walking, I did that weeks ago, so I told myself I would go at least 20 minutes.

At the end of 20 minutes, I did not walk.  I really wanted to walk at 25 minutes, but I did not stop.  I had to make it to 30.  As I was pushing myself my mind cleared and I knew that I could do it.  I can run the 5 mile race next month.

It won’t be fast, my current pace is an 11 min/mile.  But I can do it.

I walked for two minutes after the 30, then ran for 10, walked for 2 and then did my cool down.

Keep. On. Running.
