Monster High Birthday Card with the Silhouette Sketch Feature

I have been loving the sketch feature that my Silhouette Cameo has.

Being able to draw with it gives me more options than just print n’ cut.

This weekend we will be attending a birthday party for a little girl who is turning six and just loves Monster High.  Since her favorite character is Lagoona Blue I made her a personalized birthday card.

I will be providing a tutorial on how to make this card, so tune in next week for the details.

I think my favorite thing about the card is the fish bowl purse.  I used clear sticker paper to give the appearance of glass.

Menu Plan Monday April 21st

Did everyone have a happy Easter?

I know my kids did.  Easter really snuck  up on me this year.  We didn’t even go see the Easter Bunny and get pictures!  I couldn’t believe it.

But the Easter Bunny was still kind enough to stop by our house with a few gifts and candy filled plastic eggs.

For lunch we went to my sister’s house and my nieces hid eggs for my boys and my cousin’s girls.  And by hid, I mean they tossed them around the yard for the little kids to pick up.

Ian would run around grab a couple then put them in his basket.  He was also really good about sharing and making sure his cousins and brother got some.  After all the eggs were found, he picked up his basket and said ‘Whew. Dats a lot of eggs. I’m a natural.’

For dinner we went to one of my aunt’s house where these was a lot of family and good food.

Sid even got some ice cream for dessert.

I think these kids had more sugar yesterday than they did on Halloween!

Easter Bunny Juice Boxes for a Preschool Easter Party

Ian has his Easter party at school today.
So what do I volunteer to bring?
Juice boxes of course because I can make them look like super cute little bunnies.
I found these Hansen’s Junior Juice
boxes and thought the would be perfect because there are just 4.23 oz, a perfect size for little 4 & 5 year olds.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out all the parts for the bunny.

I was grateful that I had two mats!  I could load another one to cut, while I was taking all these little parts off.
I then just glued them all together and wrapped around the boxes.

20140416-190217.jpg
I made 20 boxes and was able to use one 12×12″ sheet of pink card stock, scrap pieces of black and 7 sheets of 8.5×11″ white card stock. I also had the googly eyes, so I only had to buy the juice boxes, which I got 20 for less than $7.

I also broke out my Cameo to make a letter matching egg game. I got the eggs 18/$1 and I already had the vinyl. I cut out an upper case and a lower case letter, and put them on different colored eggs.

I put the upper case on the top half and lower case on the bottom half. The kids then would match the two letter s together.

We also had the kids make rabbit masks to hold up for a group picture.

20140416-191013.jpg

You need a paper plate, card stock for the ears (white and pink), pipe cleaners for the whiskers and craft sticks for a handle.

We cut out the center of the plate, made a template for the ears and let the kids cut the ears and glue them together.

They turned really cute and we were able to get a great group picture.

Happy Easter

Running Log ~ April 10th

My first running log of April.

I completely forgot to write about my run last Sunday.  I also had internet issues, but we won’t get into that.

Last Sunday I ran the Bridge to Brews 8k.  I wanted to run the 10K, but then decided to just do an 8k again and try to beat my time.

My cousin and I before the race

My cousin (the tall one) and me (the short one) before the race

Here is the map of the run

Bridge to Brews course map

But you know what it doesn’t show?  The bitch of a hill at the VERY END of the race.  For the last mile we go from an elevation of 26 feet to 135 feet!  With the last 1/4 of a mile raising something like 80 feet!

I wanted to run the whole five miles with out walking, which would give me a better time.  Which was the result I was looking for in this race.

I ran with my cousin and we are about level with our pacing, so all we had to do was keep together.

When we got to the Broadway bridge, the second bridge, the on ramp was an incline, and I decided I just wasn’t going to run it.  So I walked up the ramp and caught back up with my cousin on the other side of the bridge.

When we got off the bridge is when the hill started and I made it part way before I decided I just couldn’t run up it.  It was just too steep and I was just too tired.  Maybe I could have done it, but at that point I was pleased with my results and I felt it was just fine that I walk a little.

I did start running again towards the finish line, I wanted to make sure I was running when I crossed!

20140410-132638.jpg

During the race I had the Map My Run app going so that I would know my pace.  The difficult thing with this is that you have to start and stop it.  I started as we crossed the start line, but I forgot to stop it, so that added a couple of minutes to my total time and thus my average pace.

However, the app breaks down my pace for each mile.

Mile Pace (min/mi)
1 11:28
2 11:13
3 10:38
4 11:51

Can you see that?

Our third mile we were rocking under an 11 min/mi pace!

I finished just under an hour at 59:13 min and since my cousin didn’t walk when I did at the very end she finished about a minute and a half ahead of me.  Which is awesome because she hadn’t done a 8k until this run!

the ‘sweaty selfie’

I am pleased with our progress and of course because we are crazy, we are going to run a half-marathon at the end of August.

What?  Did I just say that?

A half-marathon is 13.1 miles.  So that is just like running two 8k races, and I can do an 8k, so it will be easy-peasy.

Just. Keep. Running.
