This post took a few days to write, mostly because I have been very busy!
Last weekend Ian and Sid went to their first ever LEGO Convention.
Baby Sid’s first LEGO convention
It wasn’t a Brickcon but Bricks Cascade convention, which was put on by the Portland LEGO User Group and Bricklandia, Inc.
of course Ian found a friend as soon as we got there
It is a smaller convention, but was still fun! They had the displays of LEGOs that people had built. Some were just from kits, but most were original.
There was a Hogwarts display by Alice Finch. It was EPIC. She has brought this piece of art to multiple conventions. A LEGO fan blog, The Brothers Brick, did an interview with her. You can see more pictures and in greater detail.

There was also displays from Lord of the Rings and The Wizard of OZ.
There was a whole group of tables that were just LEGO cities and had train track running around them. The trains were made from LEGOs and worked. What train track would be complete with out a LEGO Union Station here in Portland.
I loved the LEGO city displays because they involved all the minifigs set up in scenes.
Ian’s favorite was, of course, the Spiderman. Mine was this City Pool. You can’t really tell from my picture but there was a shallow and a deep end. The minifigs in the pool are submerged and there is a hot tub with moving water, well it looks like moving water. On the side of the building is a pump and filtration system.
The details people put into building these things is truly astonishing.
There was also a sectioned off area with LEGO Duplo sets for the kids to play with. After looking at one display table Ian and I spent the majority of our time there.
On Sunday we finally cut Ian’s hair!
He basically had no hair when he was born. By his second birthday he had a natural mullet. Yep, party in the back, business up front. But it had these wonderful curls.
I know, those lovely golden tresses, gone. But it was past due. They no longer had the ringlet curls in the back, it would just tangle up to be a mess. It was just out of control.
He has been asking for a Mohawk for a while now and we have talked about getting his hair cut. I wasn’t sure how he would handle it.
But he did great. We went to a barber shop and he was the only customer at the time. The barber was great and Ian liked him, so I think that helped him be comfortable.
He looks like a completely different kid now!
Sorry about the lack of clarity, it was a phone-pic
This past weekend my mother, my sister, her family, the boys and I stayed downtown in ‘the Big City’.
My sister got tickets to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the Children’s Theater. So they decided to stay downtown using my Mom’s free hotel points. I kind of work downtown so on Friday my mom and sister brought the kids and my brother-in-law and I joined them after work.
The boys and I only stayed Friday night but everyone else stayed till Sunday.
By the time we all got there on Friday it was after five, but the kids wanted to go swimming right away.
So we put off dinner and headed down to the pool. I sat on the side with Baby Sid while everyone else swam and hung out in the hot tub.
We then went back to order some room service. We always allow ourselves one time during a hotel stay to order room service. The price is high but the convenience is so worth it! Plus, it makes you feel so fancy 🙂
After getting the kids all clean from the pool it was way too late to try to find a place to feed them. Baby Sid enjoyed his first hotel stay, taking a quick nap on the hid-a-bed where the kids watched a movie.
We spent Saturday wandering around and of course more swimming.
It was a nice little break from life.
This is my first week back to work ‘full’ time. This year our budget was cut and I am actually at 80% time, so I work four days a week now. I have decided to take Wednesdays off, contingent on work load.
Because I am still getting used to work again I am making some pretty easy meals during the week.
Menu Plan Jan. 21-27th
Mon: Beef Stew
Tue: Meatloaf and I am not sure yet what we will eat with it…
Sometimes I feel pulled in all directions, and I only had to go into work two days last week!
So here is what happened, and why I wasn’t on-line. (which written out doesn’t seem like that much….oh except I didn’t add all the boring stuff)
Monday (1/7) was my first day back to work. I made it out of the house about 30 minutes later than I had intended. Baby Sid had been sleeping about 8 hours for over a month, until the night before I had to start working again.
Work wasn’t that bad, I mostly just caught up with everyone and pumped. The drive was unpleasant because it was also the first day back to school so there was lots of traffic out there.
Tuesday I still had to wake up super early because I had to play chauffeur to my mom. A while ago (more than a decade) she had to have one of her kidneys removed because of cancer. Recently her doctor found some kidney stones and they had to be taken care of due to her having only the one kidney. It would be very bad if one of the stones caused a blockage in her only kidney.
Instead of actually removing the stones she was having Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) treatment done. The doctor sends sound waves through your body as you lie on a water cushion to break the stones into smaller more passable pieces. They used general anesthesia so she wasn’t allowed to drive home.
The boys and I took her to have a CT scan, then to the hospital for the procedure. After getting her all checked in, we went to take care of getting car seat replacements from the accident.
After taking her home I didn’t feel she should be alone, so the boys and I stayed with her overnight. Luckily I didn’t have to work the next day.
Wednesday was spent at my moms. Both Monday and Tuesday night Sid decided he didn’t want to sleep so I didn’t get much sleep. I figured I jinxed his sleep pattern because I told everyone at work how well he slept.
I had to go back to work on Thursday and actually do a little bit of work. I also had forgotten how much time it takes to pump at work.
Sid slept bad all week! Sometime because his nose is still stuffy and the humidifier hasn’t been working that great; sometimes because of his stomach (gas problems). I need to clean my humidifier which entails vaporizing water that contains vinegar, something I am not looking forward to. Yuck!
So Friday I was just as tired. I didn’t want to go anywhere but I did get some stuff done at the house.
I spent some time with my mom on Sat and did some major cleaning on Sun. Yep, I pulled out my fridge and stove to clean behind there, a task I do not enjoy. And of course Ian is always there to help.
Plus the Husband and I took advantage of the free Showtime weekend to watch the first season of Homeland. Which meant we made sure to get Ian in bed on time! We didn’t have time to watch the second season, but we will!
Tomorrow I will have a new post about what I did Monday (1/14) but here is a sneak peek for now…
